40 Hours I Flexible schedule to meet department needs to include evenings and weekends. This is a grant funded position.
Position Summary

The Summit Scholars Coach will play a key role in guiding, mentoring, and tracking each program participant's academic success and progress. This will include assisting them in achieving their educational, career, and personal goals by providing academic, financial aid, career, and transfer support. The coach will regularly communicate and discuss educational opportunities and financial aid options with individual students and groups, provide successful intervention strategies and referrals to other support services as needed, provide support for social emotional learning, present information about college success strategies and SSS services to individuals and groups, enter and track SSS participant information and data, and conduct follow-up to track student progress and outcomes.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the identification and selection of program participants
  • Meet with students on a regular basis to track their academic progress and success
  • Provide coaching and advise students on proper course load and sequencing to encourage individual student success
  • Provide coaching for students that will encourage them to gain the necessary skills to assume responsibility for working and achieving their educational plans, including how to use advising tools, such as Student Planning, Navigate
    360, Program Evaluations, etc.
  • Enter and track SSS participant information and data in the TRIO SSS tracking system
  • Assess participant needs and provide students with information and proper referrals to available resources and services on campus
  • Develop relationships with student participants that will allow to understand the student's academic history, financial aid requirements, workload, and personal/family situations, as appropriate
  • Meet with assigned students on a regular basis to monitor and follow up on student progress, including GPA, credits, academic program completion/graduation, transfer, and athletic eligibility
  • Assist the TRIO SSS team with identifying enrichment activities, workshops, and services that promote student success
  • Assist with maintaining compliance of processes and documentation
  • Collaborate with various campus support offices and faculty to ensure smooth transitions for all facets of the TRIO SSS student experience from enrollment to completion
  • Represent TRIO SSS on campus committees, advocating for and supporting the needs of the program
  • Additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in counseling, higher education, adult education or related field
  • Minimum of one year of directly related experience in counseling, advising, or higher education
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working within a higher education setting
  • Experience working with culturally diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged individuals
  • Experience with financial literacy and career coaching
  • Experience with TRIO programs, either professionally or as a participant
Skill and Specifications:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of databases.
  • Ability to learn new technological applications.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with diverse audiences, including group presentations.
  • Sensitivity to students whose cultural and educational experiences differ from his/her own.
  • Working knowledge of students' needs and effective intervention strategies.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, manage multiple tasks, organize, and prioritize tasks.
  • Willingness to share responsibility for improving work relations as a collaborative team member.
  • Ability to work under pressure with composure.
  • Ability to follow leadership and college-wide procedures.
  • Ability to work in a high-quality, focused service environment in a professional manner with excellent organizational and customer service skills.
