Job PurposeAs a Geotechnical Engineer, you will work independently to design, analyze, and manage engineering projects. This role involves collaboration with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver technically sound and compliant projects, with opportunities for client liaison and project management, including time and budget oversight.
Roles & Responsibilities- Undertake preliminary and detailed designs for engineering projects
- Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and reports
- Perform structural analysis and ensure compliance with engineering standards
- Assist in the preparation of fee/tender proposals
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders
- Conduct site visits and inspections
- Ensure compliance with design and safety standards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including contractors and clients, on projects
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and communication with stakeholders
- Provide technical support to junior and graduate engineers
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ICE or IStruct
E accredited course - Minimum 2:1 (or equivalent) degree classification
- Commitment to pursue continuous professional development towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineering status
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Proficient in design and analysis software
- Strong understanding of design codes and standards
- Good communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage tasks and work within deadlines
Strong attention to detail and compliance with QA Management Systems
- Minimum 2 years experience, preferably with a professional background in rail-based projects
- Aptitude to work on initiative, be proactive and take responsibility
- Flexible approach and ability to multi‑task and prioritise
- Highly motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team
- Enthusiastic, hardworking with a positive outlook and approachable manner
- Good communication and teamwork abilities
- Willingness to learn and adapt
- Operate in a fast‑paced and dynamic multi‑tasking environment
- Full clean driving licence would be an advantage
- Sentinel Track Safety – PTS holder required
- Familiar with Autodesk (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and Bentley (Micro Station) software
- Site work, overnight or weekend work may be required due to role nature
