, located in Crown Point, Indiana as a Registry Infusion Nurse (RN). UChicago Medicine is an integrated academic and community health system with multiple primary medical facilities within the surrounding suburbs of Chicago. UChicago Medicine, Crown Point is a two-story, 130,000-square-foot multispecialty care center and micro-hospital in Northwest Indiana, the academic health system's largest off-site facility and its first freestanding building in Indiana.
The Infusion Nurse under the direction of the Attending Physician or a licensed independent Practitioner provides technically complex and high-risk nursing care services to patients including intravenous infusions, and injections for both chemotherapy and non-chemotherapy medications.

- Handles confidential information consistent with Federal HIPAA legislation
- Performs a variety of clinical and research procedures with efficiency and high standards of quality; assures that the proper protocol is used for each sedation.
- Provides patient care in a compassionate and empathetic manner; demonstrates knowledge of age-specific considerations in the provision of care. Involves a multidisciplinary team as needed to support patient and family psychological, social and spiritual needs.
- Accurately completes required patient assessment, documentation, and interpretations for each patient encounter. Possesses sound professional judgment for timely physician intervention as needed. Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate actions, initiates appropriate life supporting interventions while communicating appropriately with physicians.
- Maintains nursing equipment and work areas in proper working condition; reports malfunctioning equipment or housekeeping issues to the appropriate person. Maintains a neat and clean work area with equipment. Maintains adequate inventory control of all necessary supplies. Emergency equipment maintained with adequate availability, good working order and restocks as needed with a fiscal awareness and accountability.
- Interfaces with customers, specifically patients, families, visitors, and UCMC staff in a professional, positive and accommodating manner; demonstrates knowledge of AIDET principles and employs in all situations; demonstrates flexibility in accommodating special needs of customers whenever possible.
- Performs all required Quality Assurance testing as indicated or as required by UCMC
- Rotates to clinical areas as directed to assist in safe staffing ratios; utilizes resources to safely transport sedated patients to an appropriate or designated area within the UCMC.
- The RN is an expert in assessing and treating and evaluating patient conditions specific to their work area, e.g., anxiety, pain, claustrophobia and underlying disease conditions. Due to the complex nature of pain, RN will evaluate and treat pain in a prompt, caring fashion and reassess after each intervention, charting per UCMC protocol.
- RN maintains hospital required nursing & ICU unit specific competencies needed to provide proficient nursing care; RN will provide continuity of care for infant, pediatric or adult patients based on area of specialty. This includes assisting in the care of critically ill patients during sedation/procedural encounters. Administering high-risk infusion and transfusion (i.e. chemotherapy medicines).
