DescriptionThe Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides direct, hands‑on support to residents with their daily personal care needs, ensuring comfort, dignity, and overall well‑being. The role assists residents with activities of daily living—including grooming, hygiene, nutrition, mobility, and social engagement—while monitoring and reporting changes in condition to the care team. CNAs promote a safe, clean, and supportive environment by assisting with meals, housekeeping, and resident activities, and by fostering effective communication with residents, families, and staff.
Through compassionate care and teamwork, the CNA helps residents maintain the highest possible level of independence, health, and quality of life.
- Assist and provide direction to residents regarding their personal care needs, including grooming, hygiene, dressing, nutrition, etc.
- Answer signal lights, bells, or intercom systems to determine residents' needs using a proactive approach.
- Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration rates, and food and fluid intake and output as directed.
- Transport residents or assist residents with walking, turning, or repositioning, alone or with assistance.
- Change bed linens, run errands, direct visitors, and answer telephone calls.
- Assist with laundry and housekeeping duties.
- Assist residents to and from dining room as needed and assist with meals.
- Encourage and assist residents to participate in activities.
- Listen to and understand the problems of residents and report observations immediately to the care team as needed.
- Promote the physical, personal, and emotional well‑being of each resident and strive to maintain the ultimate goal of returning the resident to their maximum level of self‑care and independence, when possible.
- Understand the resident’s Advance Directives and follow their wishes.
- Ensure effective communication with residents’ families concerning residents’ care, encompassing their physical, personal, and emotional well‑being.
- Work well with others and take direction from management, while taking initiative with the capability to engage in conflict intervention and resolution for residents, families, employees, and others as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Completion of an accredited CNA program required.
- One year of experience as a certified nursing assistant preferred.
- CPR or BLS certification preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in common digital tools and applications, including Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word), web‑based platforms, electronic health record systems, and any HR‑related systems as applicable.
- This position may require walking or standing for extended periods and moving throughout the community, resident apartments, and other areas.
- The employee may occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, as well as climb or balance.
- The employee is required to communicate effectively and interpret written information.
- This position may need to lift up to fifty (50) pounds independently, and up to 200 pounds with assistance.
- Individuals must follow all infection prevention and control protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary.
- The role involves participating in all staff activities aimed at fostering teamwork, unity, and morale.
- Individuals must stay current on all training and ongoing education initiatives, actively pursuing self‑improvement and continuous learning opportunities.
