Overview

Position Overview The Travel Med-Surg RN provides safe, high-quality patient care using the nursing process in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, ANA Code of Ethics, and Scope & Standards of Practice. This role functions as a clinical leader at the bedside, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, delegating appropriately, and maintaining accountability for patient outcomes in a fast-paced acute care environment. Travel RNs are expected to adapt quickly, demonstrate strong clinical judgment, and integrate seamlessly into unit workflows while upholding the organization's standards of care and patient satisfaction.

Education
  • Required:

    Registered Nurse Diploma
  • Preferred:
    Associate or Bachelor's degree in Nursing
Experience
  • Required:

    Minimum of 2 years of recent Med-Surg RN experience
Licensure & Certifications

Required:

  • Active RN license in the state of Louisiana (or compact license)
  • Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association

Preferred:

  • Med-Surg or specialty-related certification
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to manage multiple patient assignments in a high-acuity Med-Surg setting
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) and clinical software
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent time management, adaptability, and organizational skills
Key Responsibilities
  • Delivers direct patient care using the nursing process in a Med-Surg environment
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care plans
  • Provides patient and family education tailored to diverse populations
  • Effectively communicates and collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members
  • Delegates and coordinates care with licensed and ancillary staff
  • Utilizes data and evidence-based practice to support optimal patient outcomes
  • Promotes patient satisfaction, teamwork, and professional nursing standards
  • Maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, accreditation standards, and facility policies
  • Adheres to organizational Compliance & Privacy Programs and Standards of Conduct
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Physical Demand Level: Heavy Work
  • Ability to lift 50–100 lbs occasionally, 25–50 lbs frequently, and/or 10–20 lbs constantly

  • Routine exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and specimens
  • Occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases
  • Potential exposure to hazardous medications and hazardous waste
