Executive Director of Place

The Role

As Executive Director – Place, you will provide collective and visible leadership across planning, regeneration, housing, transport, infrastructure, economic growth and related services. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, you will help shape the strategic direction of the Council while delivering high‑quality outcomes for residents, businesses and communities.

Key Responsibilities

* Lead the development and delivery of a spatial framework covering planning, regeneration, housing, infrastructure and transport

* Drive economic growth and regeneration strategies, maximising sustainable investment and revenue

* Ensure delivery of statutory duties relating to planning, housing and homelessness

* Provide strategic leadership across a complex, multi‑disciplinary directorate

* Lead partnership working with developers, public bodies and external stakeholders

* Oversee budget management, commercial opportunities and value‑for‑money outcomes

* Champion organisational change, innovation and continuous improvement

* Promote equality, diversity and inclusive leadership across all services

About You

You will bring:

* Senior leadership experience at Director / Executive Director level within local government or a comparable complex organisation

* A strong track record of leading Place‑based services at scale

* Experience managing large budgets, transformation programmes and multi‑agency partnerships

* Excellent political awareness and the ability to work effectively with Members and senior stakeholders

* A collaborative, values‑led leadership style with the credibility to operate at Executive level
