Your Day to Day Life

We are looking for a Microbiology Technician at 3600 Eagle Nest Dr, North Building, Crete, IL 60417 USA. Your mission will be to support testing procedures by preparing samples, maintaining documentation, and contributing to the quality and efficiency of laboratory operations.

Purpose (Objective): The incumbent prepares samples for processing and maintains documentation of process to facilitate testing procedures.

Main Activities
  • Prepare samples for analysis by recording, weighing and blending
  • Label plates with identification so client and sample numbers can be tracked
  • Pipette sample solution into tubes or plates according to the analysis process
  • Pour agar into plates or tubes to begin growth
  • Collect plates and place them in the incubator for the specified time and temperature
  • Prepare media and broth for use in pathogen testing as required
  • Ensure media and materials are prepared for the next testing sequence
  • Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) required to complete responsibilities
  • Set up equipment and materials needed for analysis
  • Read plates and tubes to determine the number of organisms in the sample
  • Support corporate quality and continuous improvement processes
  • Perform necessary housekeeping duties, keeping work areas and equipment clean and sanitized
  • Participate in cleaning schedule and retain samples as required
  • Adhere to all safety policies
  • Support laboratory management in the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the management system
  • Perform other related tasks as needed
Your Profile

Must be able to work evenings and weekends

Profile (required education/qualification and professional background): HS Diploma and 1+ year relevant work experience. A basic knowledge of science to perform testing procedures and obtain accurate results. Basic knowledge of personal computers to enter testing data. Basic knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies. Planning skills to maintain supplies and ensure analysis is completed within time.

Required skills: Time management, prioritization in a fast-paced environment, attention to detail, analytical skills to complete procedures and determine concentration of microorganisms. General knowledge of LIMS to process client data. Physical dexterity for manipulating samples.

Work Environment: Laboratory setting with lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to fumes, chemicals, and materials. Safety equipment may be required. May use autoclave daily. Continuous lifting up to 50 pounds. Standing for extended periods. Ability to detect slight color variations.

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation Package Overview
Compensation Range: $18.00 - $20.00/hour USD
