Your day-to-day lifeWe are looking for an Operations Supervisor - Chemistry in Crete, IL. Your mission will be to:
- Supervise the activities of departmental personnel to ensure operations align with Standard Operating Procedures and assigned tasks.
- Communicate emerging client requirements to laboratory personnel as needed.
- Communicate procedural and operational difficulties and delays to client service personnel or the client as required.
- Read, calculate and record analysis data to produce a report for the client. Correct any discrepancies that occur.
- Administer corporate human resources programs relating to recruitment and retention, compensation, training and development, equal employment opportunity, performance appraisal, and employment record documentation.
- Educate and train departmental personnel on correct procedures and new analysis methods. Evaluate current methods and recommend modifications as new procedures become available.
- Arrange and document work schedules for departmental personnel to ensure analyses are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Assist departmental personnel with analysis tasks as needed to ensure timely results.
- Maintain supplies and instrumentation for operating departments.
- Exercise responsibility and authority to halt analyses when the quality system indicates the process is not in control.
- Maintain knowledge of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) required to complete job responsibilities and ensure staff have sufficient LIMS training.
- Maintain expertise in the field of food science by attending relevant seminars and using available reading material.
- Support corporate quality and continuous improvement processes.
- Initiate actions to prevent or minimize departures from the quality system or test procedures, addressing resource needs to meet client turnaround time requirements and ensure materials are available.
- Perform other related tasks as needed.
Profile (required education/qualifications and professional background): Bachelors degree and 2-5 years of relevant work experience or Masters degree. Requires broad knowledge of microbiology or chemistry to analyze and interpret data accurately. A general knowledge of food science is necessary to supervise analyses.
Required skills: A broad knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and policies; general knowledge of LIMS to process client data and calculate and record analysis results.
Work Environment: Laboratory setting with proper lighting and temperature control. Occasional exposure to fumes, chemicals and materials. Safety equipment such as gloves, laboratory coat and eyeglasses may be required. May use autoclave daily. Continuous lifting of materials weighing up to 50 pounds and extended standing. Ability to detect slight color variation.
Compensation & BenefitsCompensation: $60,000 - $70,000 USD
Potential bonus: Up to 5% based on performance.
