IT Network Systems Specialist – Okaloosa County
Provides technical support for the County's diverse communications networks. Upgrades, configures, and maintains Voice over IP (VoIP) and other network related devices.
- Maintains telecommunications network software configuration and provides assistance with telecommunications network hardware configuration.
- Troubleshoots telecommunications network hardware and software problems.
- Performs analysis of user's needs and recommends appropriate systems solutions.
- Installs, programs, and maintains VoIP phones; assists with user training.
- Monitors network devices, troubleshoots outages, liaises with users at outage sites to verify power and responds when network equipment power-cycles.
- Reports and resolves networking equipment and software problems.
- Creates, maintains and disseminates “how to” documentation to IT staff.
- Researches new communication and network technology solutions.
- Maintains knowledge of related applications, equipment, and trends.
- Serves as back up for Communication Specialist.
- Activates connections at patch panels and troubleshoots lack of LAN device connectivity to network switches; troubleshoots suspected network or switch failure.
Position may require irregular work hours and may require the need to be on standby to complete maintenance and upgrades, as well as before, during and after emergency situations/activations.
Education, Training, and
Experience:
Associate's degree with course work emphasis in Computer Science or Information Management; or vocational/technical degree emphasizing same; supplemented by a minimum of two (2) years progressively responsible experience in support and administration of telecommunications VoIP and network technologies, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Proficiency with Microsoft Visio or equivalent design/documenting software preferred.
Licenses and/or
Certifications:
Requires a valid driver license. Network Security or specialized VoIP certification preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to operate a variety of machines and equipment including computer, office equipment, telephone, facsimile and copier. Must be able to exert over 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to raise objects overhead, lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, ramps and the like.
Must be able to bend legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s). Must be able to move about on hands and knees or hands and feet and work in confined spaces. Must be able to stand; must be able to walk over uneven surfaces carrying bulky objects and/or pushing cart; must be able to bend body downward and forward by bending legs and spine, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles;
must be able to reach, extending hands(s) in any direction; must be able to handle, seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hand(s). Language Ability:
Requires the ability to communicate effectively in English, including the ability to convey, record and exchange information; requires the ability to explain procedures and to give, receive and follow oral and written instructions. Requires ability to read a variety of moderately to highly complex technical data, policy and procedure manuals, codes, etc. Requires the ability to prepare forms and reports using prescribed formats and adhering to all rules of grammar, spelling, diction and punctuation.
Requires the ability to use and interpret modern programming languages. Requires the ability to communicate with a broad array of individuals from various professional backgrounds.
