The City of Crest Hill (population 20,459) seeks a skilled and motivated Building & Grounds Maintenance Crew Leader to join our Public Works Department. This position is well‑suited for an experienced facilities, maintenance, or public works professional looking to advance into a leadership role while remaining actively involved in hands‑on work.
Under the direction of the Public Works Director or designee, the Crew Leader performs, coordinates and oversees construction, maintenance, and repair activities for City buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds. This position supervises one full‑time employee and seasonal staff and plays a key role in maintaining safe, functional, and well‑maintained City facilities and grounds.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and perform building, facility, and grounds maintenance and repair activities
- Assign, coordinate, and supervise daily work activities for division staff
- Oversee, coordinate and perform:
- parkway, roadside, and facility grounds maintenance, including mowing, landscaping, stump removal, back filling, seeding, litter pickup, flower planting, and leaf collection
- pavement and concrete maintenance, including sidewalk and parking lot repair, removal and replacement, pothole patching, milling/grinding, and asphalt placement and compaction
- carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and related facility maintenance
- snow and ice control operations, including plowing streets, sidewalks, and parking lots
- Operate City vehicles, heavy equipment, and tools safely and efficiently
- Assist with inspections, preventative maintenance, and emergency repair activities
- Collaborate with other City departments to support operations and special projects
- High School diploma or GED
- 2–5 years of experience in municipal building maintenance, facilities, grounds, or public works
- Ability to obtain a Class A or B CDL within six (6) months of hire
- Ability to obtain a State Pesticide Applicator License within six (6) months of hire
- Experience in carpentry, electrical, and/or HVAC maintenance and repair
- Previous crew leader, supervisory, or lead‑worker experience
- Municipal or public sector experience
Physical Requirements
- Full‑time position; generally Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week
- Evening and weekend work required as needed
- Physically demanding work requires standing, walking, and driving for extended periods
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds
- Work performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and in confined spaces
- Hourly Wage Range: $25.98 – $30.44
- Union position CBA between the City and IUOE Local 150
