OverviewThe Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Social Worker Supervisor I/II. This is a full‑time, merit‑system position classified under the Social Worker series with responsibility for supervising social work staff and coordinating service delivery.
Job SummaryUnder general direction, the Social Worker Supervisor plans, organizes, and supervises social service and employment staff. Duties include coaching, reviewing work, approving case plans, overseeing compliance, addressing client concerns, and ensuring services are delivered in a culturally sensitive and confidential manner. The Supervisor may also perform court reporting, provide testimony, and manage specialized casework.
Responsibilities- Plan, assign, supervise, coach, mentor, and review the work of employees engaged in employment and social services.
- Review and approve forms, applications, court reports, placements, and reports of abuse to determine proper action.
- Monitor and revise case plans, provide guidance, and offer referrals as needed.
- Communicate with staff, management, clients, family members, and the public regarding policies and case status.
- Authorise services and refer clients to community resources.
- Attend and testify in court when required; support witnesses and victims.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients, and community partners.
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with legal standards and the National Association of Social Workers code of ethics.
- Implement and support in‑service staff development programs.
- Enter and retrieve data and narratives in automated computer systems.
- Prepare and maintain timely and accurate documentation, case records, and databases.
- Act effectively in stressful or conflict situations and provide peer support.

Social Worker Supervisor I- Pattern 1:
Three (3) years full‑time experience in Social Worker II case management in an Interagency Merit System (IMS) county; one year graduate work in social work may substitute for one year of experience. - Pattern 2:
One (1) year full‑time experience in advanced journey‑level case management in a Social Worker III classification. - Pattern 3:
Four (4) years full‑time experience in social work case management duties.
- Pattern 1:
Two (2) years full‑time experience as a Social Work III in an IMS county plus a master’s degree in social work or an accredited two‑year counseling program. - Pattern 2:
One (1) year full‑time experience as a Social Worker IV in an IMS county plus a master’s degree in social work or an accredited two‑year counseling program. - Pattern 3:
Four (4) years full‑time experience in social work case management duties plus a master’s degree in social work or an accredited two‑year counseling program. - Qualifying master’s programs include Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Counseling, Mental Health Counseling, Addiction Counseling, Gerontology, and Counseling Psychology.
- Completion of an MFT license program may be substituted by providing proof.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s license.
- All County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers; acceptance of the loyalty oath and completion of related training is required.
- Knowledge of supervision, training, mentoring, and casework consultation.
- Knowledge of organization, workload, time management, report writing, and English composition.
- Knowledge of public social services agency functions, laws, and regulations.
- Knowledge of crisis intervention, assessment of abuse, and mental health disorders.
- Knowledge of community resources, referral, and public health principles.
- Knowledge of computer systems, software, and internet research.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, manage units, mentor staff, and maintain confidentiality.
