Bi-weekly Salary:
Licensed Vocational Nurse I: $26.42 - $31.79 Hourly;
Licensed Vocational Nurse II: $27.67 - $33.30 Hourly.
The Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Licensed Vocational Nurse I/II. This position is classified as PERMANENT PART-TIME.
Under general direction, provides support for various clinics in support of public health programs; provides counseling and training for patients and the public, performs related work as required.
Essential job duties may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. The list that follows is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.
- Conduct immunization and flu vaccination clinics for children and adults; evaluate medical records and determine the need for immunization or vaccination; administer immunizations and vaccines as protocol.
- Perform, read and evaluate TB skin tests; perform First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation; refers clients to health care providers as necessary.
- Instruct clients in good health practices; provide information on common diseases, illnesses and their prevention, including communicable disease.
- Provide health-related information and instruction to individuals and families; assist in maintaining health education materials provided by the County.
- Maintain and update a variety of medical records; prepare written reports as required.
- Screens and schedules patients for examination by clinic staff.
- Maintains clinic areas and supplies in a clean orderly condition.
- Orders and maintains an adequate inventory of clinic supplies and materials.
- Assesses children with special needs and/or suspected medical problems; coordinates with other agencies on instances of child abuse.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Completion of an accredited university, collegiate, or specialized course of study in nursing. One (1) year of vocational nursing experience is desirable.
- Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state of California.
- To reach an LVN II, incumbent must possess at least two (2) years experience as an LVN I or equivalent.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s license.
All County of Del Norte employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through State law (California Government Code Section ). Employment with the County of Del Norte requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Work related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
Requires:
- Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state of California.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a class C California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing as applied to public health practice.
- Knowledge of preventative medicine and sanitation.
- Knowledge of community aspects of vocational nursing programs including provisions for continuity of patient care, nursing services in health programs and nursing care in the home including teaching preventive care.
- Knowledge of causes; means of transmission and methods of control of communicable diseases, including tuberculosis and venereal disease.
- Knowledge of child growth and development.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and plan, organize and conduct assigned public health nursing activities.
- Ability to work effectively with the public to assist in satisfactory resolution of health problems.
- Ability to provide liaison to the community in the direction of community health programs.
- Ability to prepare records and related reports.
- Ability to analyze situations and take effective courses of action.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
