Licensed Vocational Nurse I/II – Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services

Salary (Bi‑Weekly):
- Licensed Vocational Nurse I: $26.42 – $31.79 per hour
- Licensed Vocational Nurse II: $27.67 – $33.30 per hour
Provide clinical support for various public health clinics, deliver counseling and training, and perform related tasks as required.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct immunization and flu vaccination clinics for children and adults; evaluate medical records, determine the need for immunization or vaccination, and administer immunizations and vaccines as protocol.
- Perform, read and evaluate TB skin tests; provide First Aide, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation; refer clients to health care providers as necessary.
- Instruct clients in good health practices; provide information on common diseases, illnesses and prevention, including communicable disease.
- Provide health‑related information and instruction to individuals and families; assist in maintaining health education materials provided by the County.
- Maintain and update a variety of medical records; prepare written reports as required.
- Screen and schedule patients for examination by clinic staff.
- Maintain clinic areas and supplies in a clean, orderly condition.
- Order and maintain an adequate inventory of clinic supplies and materials.
- Assess children with special needs and/or suspected medical problems; coordinate with other agencies on instances of child abuse.
- Completion of an accredited university, collegiate, or specialized course of study in nursing.
- One (1) year of vocational nursing experience is desirable.
- Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state of California.
- To reach an LVN II, incumbent must possess at least two (2) years experience as an LVN I or equivalent.
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's license.
All County of Del Norte employees are designated Disaster Service Workers.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Valid LVN license in California.
- Class C California Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
- Knowledge of nursing principles as applied to public health.
- Knowledge of preventative medicine, sanitation, community aspects of vocational nursing, and communicable diseases.
- Knowledge of child growth and development.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and plan, organize, and conduct nurse activities.
- Ability to work effectively with the public and resolve health problems.
- Ability to serve as a liaison to the community regarding health programs.
- Ability to prepare records and related reports.
- Ability to analyze situations and take effective action.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Work is generally performed in an office environment under both quiet and noisy conditions; continuous contact with the general public and staff; travel within Del Norte County and the state is required if necessary.

- Hearing:
Adequate to correctly interpret speech and non‑speech sounds in noisy and quiet environments. - Vision:
Adequate to detect signs, symptoms and body language; read labels, charts and computer monitors. - Coordination & Dexterity:
Limb movement and coordination; mobility to reach with hands and arms. - Keyboard operation required.
- Vehicle operation required.
- Alertness, concentration, judgment, patience, memory and problem‑solving skills needed.
Applications will be reviewed; those closely meeting the needs of the county may be invited to an oral interview. A written examination may be administered in large pools. Expenses for travel and lodging for interview are the applicant's responsibility. The County does not discriminate.
Employment ConditionsVerification of citizenship or lawful admission required within three days of employment. Employees are Disaster Service Workers and must affirm loyalty oath. Disaster Service Work training is required.
