Description

The County of Del Norte Department of Health and Human Services, Public Health Branch, seeks a qualified candidate for the Health Education Coordinator I/II (full-time). Under general direction from the Health Division Program Manager or designee, the role coordinates programs on-site, supervises assigned staff, and performs administrative and analytical work related to state and federal funding. The position requires administrative-level experience with a wide variety of responsible functions without direct supervision except as needed for unusual circumstances.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the County Health Education Program and activities.
  • Develop and execute short- and long-term goals for the health education program.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal guidelines related to health education programs.
  • Administer the program through tasks such as research, analysis, report writing, and staff scheduling.
  • Represent the program at local and regional meetings related to health education services.
  • Determine resources needed to provide appropriate and effective services.
  • Perform additional administrative duties as assigned.
  • Monitor programs for evaluation and provide administrative support for ongoing quality assurance.
  • Collect, analyze, and maintain program data for operational reports to comply with guidelines.
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate the work of assigned staff, including yearly performance evaluations, ongoing training, and approving time off and schedule changes.
  • Provide direct services and/or schedule coverage for client services as needed.
  • Collaborate with departmental staff to prepare and present community workshops on health education services.
  • Participate in planning, development, and implementation of school and community-based health education programs.
Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education, training, and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered qualifying.

Minimum Qualifications – Level I

Education: Equivalent to graduation with a high school diploma supplemented with college coursework in public health, education, or a related field.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience in a health education or disease prevention program.

Minimum Qualifications – Level II

Education: Bachelor’s degree in behavioral or social science, public health, education, or a closely related field is preferred.

Experience: Six (6) years of experience, with a minimum of two years as Health Education Coordinator I, demonstrating lead staff duties, quality improvement, program tracking, annual work plan writing, and grant funding writing.

Desired Qualifications: Master’s degree in behavioral or social science, public health, or education.

Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Knowledge Of:

  • Relevant legislation in health education programs.
  • Current principles, practices, methods, and techniques in health education.
  • Budget and statistical methods and analysis of program effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Business computer applications for statistical analysis, recordkeeping, and report writing.
  • Grant sources, development, writing techniques, and administration.
  • Effective public presentations with both oral and visual aids.

Ability To:

  • Plan, organize, and supervise programs and staff.
  • Interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, and policies; administer department procedures.
  • Develop, monitor, and coordinate program goals and activities.
  • Establish cooperative relationships with staff, health education professionals, clients, community groups, and the public.
  • Work weekends, holidays, and irregular hours.
