Brief Description

As a Distribution and Plant Technician you will play a key role in maintaining, testing, repairing and installing critical railway infrastructure systems including HV switch gear, DC circuit breakers, battery chargers, points heating, EICR testing, generators, lighting and telecoms equipment.

About the role (External)

Working outdoors and in all weather conditions, you will support the Team Leader and eventually deputise for the Team Leader, ensuring work sites stay safe and standards are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, diagnose and rectify faults in electrical and plant systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to keep the railway operating safely and efficiently.
  • Work outdoors, at height and in all weather conditions.
  • Support and eventually lead tasks, supporting the Team Leader and developing leadership skills.

Qualification

City & Guilds 2365 Level 2 or equivalent qualification in electrical installation.

Additional Information
  • Shifts:

    Variable, including days, nights, weekends and on‑call duties.
  • Working environment:
    Indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, sometimes at height.
  • Safety:
    Employment subject to drug and alcohol testing, medical assessments and BPSS checks.
  • Driving:
    Must hold a full manual driving licence for at least one year.
  • Commute:
    Must live within 60 minutes of RH10 1HW
    .
  • On‑call:
    Rotational on‑call duties with access to a company vehicle during these periods.
Maintenance Area

The Three Bridges Distribution & Plant Team covers a wide area across the South East, including:

  • Coastal line between Havant and Bexhill.
  • Brighton Main Line up to Merstham.
  • Arun Valley Line between Littlehampton and Dorking.
  • All intermediate areas between these locations.
Essential Criteria
  • Knowledge of safe and efficient work delivery methods.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in inspection, faulting and renewal.
  • Willingness to work shifts in all conditions.
  • Full manual driving licence held for at least one year.
  • City & Guilds 2365 Level 2 or equivalent.
  • 18th Edition BS 7671 qualification.
  • IT literacy and computer skills.
  • Willingness to participate in on‑call rota.
  • Residence within 60 minutes of RH10 1HW
    .
Desirable Criteria
  • Leadership and supervisory experience.
  • Experience planning and implementing safe systems of work.
  • City & Guilds 2391 (Testing & Inspection).
  • City & Guilds 2365 Level 3 or equivalent.
  • Experience with HV/DC systems, generators or mechanical plant.
  • Experience with points heating systems.
  • Experience in safety‑critical communications.
