With a rapidly growing VAT advisory team, the firm is looking to invest in a talented VAT Assistant Manager to support a wide range of clients on complex and high-value matters.

You’ll be part of a supportive team, focused not only on compliance but also on adding genuine value through advisory services. The firm has a reputation for technical excellence, strong client relationships, and a people-first culture, offering clear progression routes and development opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse VAT portfolio, preparing and reviewing complex VAT returns and related computations (e.g., partial exemption, business/non-business apportionments).
  • Handle VAT compliance, including support on voluntary disclosures and HMRC visits.
  • Deliver VAT advisory services including:
  • Property-related VAT advice (capital goods scheme, option to tax, land & property transactions).
  • VAT liability reviews and place of supply issues.
  • Review of contracts and structuring intercompany arrangements.
  • Design and advise on VAT recovery methods.
  • Act as the primary contact for ad hoc VAT queries, providing clear and concise technical advice.
  • Liaise with HMRC during audits and inspections.
  • Contribute to internal technical updates, client training sessions, and knowledge sharing across the firm.
  • Identify business development opportunities, contribute to proposals and quotations, and support the growth of VAT-only client relationships.

Requirements

  • ATT or AAT qualified as a minimum; CTA qualification (or working towards) is desirable.
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK VAT, with a background in compliance and advisory.
  • Previous experience dealing with a broad range of VAT issues, ideally including land/property and partial exemption.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially when explaining technical VAT concepts to non-specialists.
  • Confident dealing directly with clients and managing a portfolio.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and accountancy/VAT-specific software packages.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach with a genuine interest in developing VAT expertise.
  • 25 days holiday, with the option to purchase additional days
  • Hybrid working and flexible hours
  • Paid overtime or time off in lieu
  • Access to employee discount and lifestyle benefits hub
  • Relaxed dress code policy and modern office environment
  • Friendly, inclusive culture with regular social events and networking opportunities
