With a rapidly growing VAT advisory team, the firm is looking to invest in a talented VAT Assistant Manager to support a wide range of clients on complex and high-value matters.
You’ll be part of a supportive team, focused not only on compliance but also on adding genuine value through advisory services. Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse VAT portfolio, preparing and reviewing complex VAT returns and related computations (e.g., partial exemption, business/non-business apportionments).
- Handle VAT compliance, including support on voluntary disclosures and HMRC visits.
- Deliver VAT advisory services including:
- Property-related VAT advice (capital goods scheme, option to tax, land & property transactions).
- VAT liability reviews and place of supply issues.
- Review of contracts and structuring intercompany arrangements.
- Design and advise on VAT recovery methods.
- Act as the primary contact for ad hoc VAT queries, providing clear and concise technical advice.
- Liaise with HMRC during audits and inspections.
- Contribute to internal technical updates, client training sessions, and knowledge sharing across the firm.
- Identify business development opportunities, contribute to proposals and quotations, and support the growth of VAT-only client relationships.
Requirements
- ATT or AAT qualified as a minimum; CTA qualification (or working towards) is desirable.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK VAT, with a background in compliance and advisory.
- Previous experience dealing with a broad range of VAT issues, ideally including land/property and partial exemption.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially when explaining technical VAT concepts to non-specialists.
- Confident dealing directly with clients and managing a portfolio.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and accountancy/VAT-specific software packages.
- A proactive, collaborative approach with a genuine interest in developing VAT expertise.
