The Welder plays a critical role in keeping our operations running smoothly by ensuring company vehicles, equipment, and inventory experience minimal downtime. This position is part of our dedicated maintenance team and directly supports safe, efficient, and productive field operations.

• Based out of our Cranbrook, BC Headquarters
• Schedule is generally Monday to Friday, with flexibility depending on project needs
• Regional travel to job sites as required
• Occasional overtime or weekend work may be required depending on project needs

As a Welder at Mac Kay, you’ll be hands‑on in maintaining and rebuilding the equipment that keeps our projects moving. Your skills will directly impact equipment reliability, jobsite safety, and operational efficiency. You’ll work both independently and as part of a team, applying technical expertise, problem‑solving, and craftsmanship to real‑world challenges.

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and measurements prior to starting work
• Source and select appropriate materials for welding and fabrication projects
• Perform welding and fabrication on company equipment and components
• Complete lifting and rigging activities safely and effectively
• Measure and cut materials to exact specifications
• Weld metals using proper techniques and materials
• Repair cracks, perform rebuilds, and complete preventative maintenance on equipment
• Operate equipment and tools required to assemble metal parts and structures
• Identify hazards, deficiencies, and potential failures before they become issues
• Follow all safety, health, and environmental procedures at all times
• Submit daily timecards accurately and on time
• Submit daily labour, equipment, and materials reports

You’re a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in precision, safety, and reliability. You’re comfortable working under pressure, asking questions when needed, and sharing ideas that improve outcomes. Whether working independently or alongside others, you bring a positive attitude and a strong sense of responsibility to everything you do.

• Red Seal “C” Ticket or higher, with fabrication experience preferred
• Strong attention to detail with a safety‑first mindset
• Ability to read and understand technical documents, blueprints, manuals, and metallurgy‑related information
• In‑depth knowledge of welding techniques and best practices
• Flexibility and resilience in fast‑paced, operational environments
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Effective time management and organizational skills
• Willingness to travel regionally to support jobsites as required
• A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
