Overview
As our Driver Technician Trainee 7.5t, you will be supported through a 3-month trainee programme to become a fully qualified John Lewis Customer Delivery Technician with a C1 driving licence. Once trained, you will join a 2-person delivery crew to install products at customers’ homes (such as furniture, large electrical appliances, sound systems and TV sets).
Due to the nature of the role, applicants must be 18 or over by the start date. In addition to contractual pay, time worked between 18:00 and 22:00 attracts an Evening Premium of £2.50 per hour, and time worked between 22:00 and 06:00 attracts a Night Premium of £3.50 per hour. This also applies to existing Partners enrolled onto Enhanced Hours Premium arrangements.
Key ResponsibilitiesBeing an ambassador for the John Lewis brand with great customer service as a priority.
Perform daily checks and assist in loading your vehicle with daily deliveries while collaborating with the warehouse team.
Show respect and courtesy for the customer’s home and handle unexpected situations to find the best solution for customers.
Install various products (including wall-mount TVs, integrated appliances, and hard-wired appliance installations). Complete installations efficiently and demonstrate how products work.
Stay up to date with new products and technologies to perform effectively.
Adhere to all legal driving regulations, including the Working Time Directive and EU regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
Note that the 90-day programme completion is based on the individual’s input and may vary based on training needs.
This role involves heavy lifting: delivering large items such as sofas, white goods, sports equipment, furniture, beds and mattresses.
UK B-Category manual driving licence with no more than 6 points.
Previous experience in a customer-facing role.
Good verbal communication skills both over the phone and in person.
Good understanding of technology and an interest in installation.
Prior experience in installation and customer delivery services.
Previous role model or team leader experience.

Hours of Work: 41 hours per week, 06:00 – 17:00, 4 days a week, 5-week rota. Working 3 in 5 Saturdays.
