Main duties of the jobIn this varied and rewarding role, you will:
- Plan, prepare and facilitate theatre lists, ensuring smooth and safe running of the department
- Deliver high quality perioperative care, acting as the patients advocate and protecting their dignity at all times
- Accurately enter and maintain patient information on IT systems
- Ensure all perioperative areas are safe, fit for purpose and well maintained
- Maintain safe custody of medications and controlled drugs
- Work in line with hospital policies, contributing to quality improvement and evidence based practice
- Record and manage data accurately in line with hospital procedures
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver a truly patient focused approach
- Lead theatre lists and provide managerial accountability when required, under the supervision of the Theatre Manager
- Support and supervise junior staff, helping develop skills and confidence within the team
- Contribute to cost effective service delivery through careful use of equipment and consumables
- Participate in audits and produce supporting documentation
- Carry out all duties professionally, including mandatory surgical checks before, during and after procedures

Purpose Plan and implement high standards of perioperativecare, following hospital guidelines and protocols,promoting a patient-focused approach to care.
The post holder will:
Where necessary plan and appropriately prepare and facilitate theatre lists.
Accurately enter patient information on IT systems.
Ensure patient care areas are safe, fit for purpose and effectively maintained.
Maintain the safe custody of medications and controlled drugs.
Key Result Areas
Deliver safe quality care for patients during theirperi-operative phase of care.
Actas the patients advocate, maintaining their dignity at all times.
Carry out duties according to policies and procedures, contributing to quality improvement, and promoting best evidence-based practice
Ensuring that data is correctly recorded in accordance with the current Hospital policy and procedure.
Promote a patient focused approach to care in collaboration with all relevant healthcare professionals.
Take the lead in the running of theatre lists
Provide managerial accountability in the absenceof a clinical lead under the supervision of the Theatre Manager
Plan and implement care of patients within the department.
In addition to clinical duties, the direct supervision and training of junior staff will be your responsibility in orderto ensure the provision of a high quality and cost-effective service to patients and users
Contribute to budgetarymanagement by exercising care and economyin the ordering and use of equipment and consumables
To contribute to audit within the Theatres and the compilation of supportingwritten documentation.
Undertake all activities in a professional and proficient manner, including mandatorysurgical checks prior to the start of the procedure, during and pre wound closure
Person Specification Qualifications- First level Registered Nurse/HCPC registered ODP.
- SFA qualification would be preferable but not essential.
- Post registration education in a relevant speciality, Degree in Healthcare or 5+ years equivalent experience
- Expert Scrub nurse with post qualification scrub experience in a range of surgical specialties.
- Excellent organisational planning and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills to build and support team working in a positive and challenging culture
- Strong patient-centred approach
- Basic computer skills e.g. MS Outlook and web-based reporting systems.
- Foster a culture of professionalism and a positive working team environment
- Demonstrate honesty, integrity and ethics in the workplace
