Medical Receptionist & Prescription Clerk
Due to increasing patient numbers,
Forum Family Practice is looking to recruit a friendly, motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced Receptionist & Prescription Clerk to join our team.
You will play a key role in supporting our multidisciplinary team and ensuring a smooth patient experience.
Responsibilities- Greeting and directing patients in a professional and welcoming manner
- Managing the appointment system and booking appointments efficiently
- Processing information accurately and assisting patients as required
- Acting as the central point of contact for patients, distributing information, messages, and enquiries
- Liaising with clinical team members and external agencies such as secondary care and community services
- Accurately and promptly processing prescription requests for our patient population, working closely with relevant personnel
- Ensuring all patients and visitors are greeted professionally and politely, with queries dealt with effectively and efficiently
- Answering all incoming calls from patients and other healthcare professionals; diverting or taking messages as required
- Dealing with administrative queries and requests from patients and GPs
- Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointment system, including making, rearranging, and cancelling appointments as required
- Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members, and associated healthcare providers
- Scanning all patient information and ensuring all patient records are kept up to date
- Managing referrals to primary and secondary care
- Processing and distributing incoming and outgoing post, and handling other ad hoc duties and general administrative tasks
- Answering the prescription line, taking requests for medications and dealing with patient queries
- Liaising with pharmacies and managing repeat dispensing tasks
- Communicating effectively with other team members, patients and carers, and recognising the need for alternative methods of communication
- Maintaining quality within the practice and alerting team members to issues of quality and risk
- Assessing own performance and taking accountability for actions, either directly or under supervision
- Contributing to the effectiveness of the team by reflecting on own and team activities and making suggestions to improve performance
- Managing own time, workload, and resources effectively
Essential:
- GCSE A to C:
Maths & English - Computer literate / IT skills
- Organisational skills
- Medical terminology
Desirable:
- NVQ Administration Level 3
- Knowledge of Systm One clinical system
- Previous experience working in a primary care or GP practice setting
- Experience of using clinical systems such as Systm One
- Previous experience in a reception or administrative role (ideally in a healthcare setting)
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to providing outstanding patient care
- Hours:
23.5 per week - Monday: 8:30 am – 2:00 pm
- Thursday & Friday: 8:30 am – 6:30 pm

Our team includes 4 Partner GPs, 2 Salaried GPs, 2 ANPs, 2 Practice Nurses, 3 Health Care Assistants, and additional support from link workers, pharmacists, mental health practitioners, a visiting paramedic, and a dedicated medication technician team. The administrative structure includes a Managing Partner, Office Manager, and a 12‑person admin support team.
