OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join the College’s Scholarship Committee as an Ordinary Surgical Member, with effect from May 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the College’s mission by supporting the oversight and development of our scholarships and awards programme.
A copy of the Committee’s Terms of Reference is attached below.
The Scholarship Committee is responsible for overseeing and reviewing all scholarships and awards administered by the College (with the exception of Dental awards). The Committee meets three times per year.
About the roleThe main role and responsibilities of the Ordinary Member Scholarship Committee, which meets 3 times per year, are to:
- Reviewing and scoring applications received for College awards and scholarships
- Reviewing and updating, where appropriate, the eligibility criteria for awards
- Conducting applicant interviews for specific awards, where required
- Selecting successful applicants and determining levels of funding
- Reviewing reports from award recipients
- Authorising payments and approving payment schedules
- Monitoring the financial position and available funding for each award
- Contributing to the fair, transparent and robust governance of the College’s scholarship activity
Members are expected to actively participate in meetings and discussions, apply objective assessment criteria, and uphold confidentiality in all aspects of the Committee’s work.
