About This Role

About This Role We have an exciting opening for a Communication Support Worker to join our first-class SEND team who work with our teaching staff to raise the learning and attainment of students by providing them with assistance so that they can access the curriculum, participate in learning and reach their maximum potential.

This role entails the provision of communication support for a profoundly deaf student to access the learning environment and the curriculum, facilitating full inclusion in school life during their time at the academy. Supporting communication between the student, their peer group and mainstream staff, and helping the student develop communication, language and social skills.

As a Communication Support Worker, you should be knowledgeable in relation to issues with Deaf Awareness and the Deaf community and culture or be willing to learn British Sign Language. Whilst previous experience of working in a secondary school setting is advantageous, it is not essential.

The role is based on working 24 hours per week, term time plus 1 week (39 working weeks per year) for a fixed term with funding linked to the student. We would welcome a telephone call from interested applicants so we could share more details about the role.

You will play a vital role in supporting pupils with special educational needs, encouraging them in their learning and the acquisition of skills, helping them to grow in confidence, develop key skills, and achieve their potential. Working closely with teaching staff, you will contribute to an engaging classroom environment and be an essential part of our students’ learning journeys.

At Cowes Enterprise College, we’re not just educators, we’re mentors, guides, and champions of lifelong learning. Our mission is clear: to nurture a love for learning and equip our students with the skills they need to thrive in life beyond the classroom.

We are dedicated to developing a love of learning in our students and preparing them for the future, whatever it may hold. Our students’ limitless potential drives everything we do, and our purpose is to guide, support, and inspire them to reach their goals.
