Ultrasound Technologist

Overview

The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing all diagnostic procedures related to ultrasound, providing clinical services according to radiology/imaging practice standards, demonstrating proficiency with ultrasound equipment, and providing educational presentations to physicians and technical staff.

• Perform complex ultrasound procedures and produce high-quality images of internal organs.
• Observe and monitor patient vital signs and medical equipment attached during procedures.
• Review physician orders with the radiologist to ensure accurate examinations and diagnostic results.
• Demonstrate working knowledge of PACS.
• Communicate with patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent, explain procedures, answer questions, and alleviate anxiety.
• Maintain equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a clean and safe condition; troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance.
• Adhere to sterile and aseptic techniques and the hospital policy on body substance isolation.
• Accurately record requisition information and perform other clerical duties as assigned; input and verify data in PACS/RIS.

• Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or equivalent training (including United States Armed Forces).
• Basic Life Support (Health Care Provider) certification from the American Heart Association.

• American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), Society of Medical Sonography (SMMS), or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) registered.

• Knowledge of medical laboratory testing techniques.
• Knowledge of standard phlebotomy and skin puncture techniques, proper blood processing and handling procedures.
• Ability to perform routine medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses.
• Ability to accurately complete and maintain patient documents and records.
• Ability to understand and follow specific clinical protocols and to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

This position does not formally supervise employees.
