Oversees campus safety and regulatory compliance, including risk assessments, training coordination, hazardous materials management, and implementation of workplace safety programs.
Job Duties- Conducts safety assessments across college operations and identifies issues.
- Communicates findings to necessary stakeholders. Participates in development of and assists with implementation of improvement plans.
- Provides knowledge and guidance to college stakeholders in specialized areas such as but not limited to: biosafety, chemical, hazardous materials, BBP, and OSHA.
- Ensures college is in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local regulations and standards. This includes inventory, ordering and disposal management.
- Under direction of supervisor, coordinates safety training for faculty and staff including managing compliance and recordkeeping of such. This extends to First Aid/CPR/BLS area as well.
- Carries out workplace safety program and logistical activities working with local designated contacts and system level EHS team.
- Makes recommendations for improvement.
- Minimal purchasing, scheduling and coordination for external inspections, remediation, resources or supplies and all other duties as assigned.
- Minimal Physical Requirements –Light lifting, occasional exposure to mild environment elements, minor safety hazards
- Environment:
Primarily office-based with frequent visits to laboratories, classrooms, and other campus facilities to conduct safety assessments. - Physical Requirements:
Occasional lifting or moving of safety equipment and hazardous materials; ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed. - Exposure:
May involve limited exposure to chemicals, biological materials, and other hazardous substances during inspections and compliance activities. - Schedule:
Standard business hours with flexibility for emergency response or special projects; occasional training sessions outside normal hours. - Travel:
Minimal, typically within campus locations.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Occupational Health Science, Environmental Health & Safety or related field or equivalent and 2 years relevant experience in health and safety related field.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local safety regulations and compliance requirements
- Ability to design, deliver, and track safety training programs for faculty and staff
- Excellent planning, coordination, and recordkeeping skills to ensure compliance and maintain accurate documentation.
- Ability to collaborate across departments and influence safety culture.
- Detail-oriented, self-motivated, ability to work independently and adapt seamlessly to fast-paced, dynamic environments.
- Skilled in engaging and supporting students from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Forms, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word)
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Occupational Health Science, Environmental Health & Safety or related field or equivalent and 3 years relevant experience in health and safety related field.
- Comfortable providing guidance and expertise to faculty, staff, and administrators.
- OSHA 10 Certification
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
- Previous experience in a community college setting
