Accountant – Oil Bunkering & Marine Fuel Trading Role Summary

The accountant supports the full financial cycle of the company’s bunkering and trading operations, ensuring accurate recording of fuel supply transactions, vessel‑related costs, inventory movements, and trading exposures. The role maintains strong financial controls, supports management reporting, and ensures compliance with maritime, tax, and regulatory requirements across relevant jurisdictions.

• Maintain full sets of accounts, including AP, AR, GL, bank reconciliation, and month‑end closing.
• Prepare monthly P&L, balance sheet schedules, cashflow statements, and variance analysis for management.
• Ensure accurate recognition of revenue, cost of sales, and bunker inventory movements in line with accounting standards.
• Track and reconcile bunker purchases, sales, and physical deliveries against operational documents (BDNs, MFM readings, delivery notes).
• Monitor trading positions, mark‑to‑market valuations, and unrealised gains/losses where applicable.

• Verify bunker purchase contracts, sales contracts, charter party terms, and operational instructions for correct financial treatment.
• Reconcile quantities and prices between suppliers, surveyors, barges, and customers.
• Validate freight, charter hire, port charges, and vessel‑related expenses for accuracy and completeness.
• Work closely with operations to ensure timely billing, settlement, and dispute resolution.

• Ensure compliance with GST/VAT, corporate tax, and cross‑border reporting requirements.
• Prepare supporting documents for statutory audits, internal audits, and bank reviews.
• Maintain proper documentation for KYC, sanctions screening, and trade compliance.
• Support regulatory submissions related to bunkering (e.g., MPA requirements) where relevant.

• Prepare payment runs, monitor cash positions, and manage FX exposures for USD‑denominated transactions.
• Liaise with banks on trade financing, LC documentation, trust receipts, and bank guarantees.
• Track customer credit limits and ageing to support credit risk management.

• Maintain accuracy of accounting and trading systems (ERP, bunkering software, inventory modules).
• Streamline workflows between finance, operations, and trading teams to improve efficiency and control.
• Support digitalisation initiatives, including automation of reconciliations and document workflows.

• Diploma/Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 2–5 years of accounting experience; exposure to oil trading, bunkering, shipping, or commodities is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of revenue recognition, inventory accounting, and cost allocation.
• Experience with multi‑currency transactions and trade finance instruments.

• Proficient in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Navision, Oracle, or bunkering/trading systems).
• Strong Excel skills for reconciliation and analysis.
• Meticulous, analytical, and able to work with high transaction volumes.
• Good communication skills to liaise with operations, traders, suppliers, and auditors.
• Ability to work under tight timelines in a fast‑paced trading environment.
