Overview:
The staff nurse provides nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle, utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care. The nurse functions within the framework of the organization’s policies and procedures, demonstrates professional growth and accountability, maintains standards of practice, and coordinates patient care activities of all assigned staff to ensure quality nursing care.
- Provide nursing care to patients from birth through the lifecycle, utilizing nursing processes to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care.
- Function within the framework of the organization’s policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate professional growth and accountability.
- Maintain standards of practice.
- Coordinate patient care activities of all assigned staff in the provision of quality nursing care.
- Education
- Graduate from a nursing program (required).
- Bachelors Degree preferred.
- Work Experience
- No experience required; new graduates of a nursing program eligible.
- Nursing experience in hospital setting preferred.
- 1 year in a hospital setting for PRN positions required.
- Licenses and Certifications
- RN – Registered Nurse – Georgia State Licensure and/or NLC/eNCL Multistate Licensure, current license in the state of Georgia as a registered nurse or NLC/eNCL Multistate License (required).
- BCLS – Basic Life Support (required).
- Additional Licenses and Certifications
- Advanced certification in field of specialty (if applicable).
- Addendum (Specialty Certifications)
- Cardiac Tele: ACLS Certification required within 180 days (new nurses complete within 6 months).
- Critical Care: ACLS Certification required within 180 days (new nurses complete within 6 months).
- Dialysis: CDN (Certified Dialysis Certificate) preferred.
- Emergency Department: ACLS and PALS Certification required within 180 days (new nurses complete within 6 months).
- Infusion/Oncology:
Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification required upon hire. - Pediatrics: PALS Certification required within 180 days (unit‑specific requirements). PEARS or PALS Certification required at specific hospitals (within 6 months).
- Surgical Services:
Pre Op/PACU/ENDO/CSU ACLS; PALS if unit provides care to pediatric patients; BLS required within 180 days. - Women's Services:
Labor and Delivery ACLS Certification required within 180 days; NRP at orientation; AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Program within 12 months; various NRP certifications required within 180 days.
