AIM Consulting Services is hiring a highly skilled Project Controls Specialist to support cost management and reporting functions on capital improvement programs across California’s public education sector. This position plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of project budgets, forecasting, and reporting systems. You’ll collaborate with schedulers, project managers, and technical teams to ensure financial compliance, manage risk exposure, and deliver accurate reporting through systems such as DELTEK and Proliance.
Ideal candidates bring deep experience in public sector construction and a strong command of cost control tools and methodologies.
Monitor project budgets and forecasts in accordance with approved standard operating procedures.
Conduct variance analyses to identify cost trends, risks, and mitigation strategies.
Participate in change management meetings and maintain detailed logs to support transparency and tracking.
Lead or support monthly EAC meetings, validating current estimates and explaining key variances.
Review cost performance in relation to schedule progress; identify underruns, overruns, or timeline risks.
Maintain cost coding and verify budgets for contract change orders and amendments.
Support creation of financial closeouts and budget transfers; manage ETC allocations.
Coordinate with schedulers and project managers on data structure, forecasts, and reporting.
Prepare and present monthly cost/progress reports, staffing plan analysis, and KPI dashboards.
Develop and maintain standardized and ad hoc reports in systems such as DELTEK, Proliance, and Data-Warehouse.
Respond to internal and external financial information requests and audit inquiries.
Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance project controls systems and reports; train users as needed.
Travel to project sites in the Los Angeles area, as required.
Qualifications10+ years of professional experience in project controls on a construction program.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field (additional qualifying experience may substitute year-for-year).
Proven experience working in fast-paced environments supporting large-scale capital projects.
Strong understanding of cost accounting, forecasting, and public sector budgeting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, and ability to work across multiple reporting systems.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on California public education construction programs (LACCD or similar).
- Familiarity with DELTEK Costpoint, Proliance, and Data-Warehouse reporting tools.
- Prior experience with Build
LACCD policies and compliance requirements. - Demonstrated expertise in developing dashboards, KPIs, and complex financial reports.
