As an Employ Me Program Mencap Mentor, you will work alongside Mencap staff in various teams supporting participants with a learning disability to develop in a workplace setting, growing their skills and building confidence.
About Employ MeEmploy Me is Mencap’s person‑centred supported employment programme, designed to help people with a learning disability, autism, and/or additional needs move towards, gain, and sustain paid employment. We offer tailored support through group and one‑to‑one sessions, as well as job coaching in the workplace—building skills, confidence, and aspirations.
Key Responsibilities- Build trust and rapport with participants through consistent, person‑centred support.
- Help individuals explore and gradually increase the tasks they undertake in the workplace.
- Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to boost confidence and motivation.
- Support participants’ understanding of workplace norms and expectations.
- Communicate clearly and listen actively to understand each person’s needs and goals.
- Strong communication and active listening skills.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships.
- A supportive and encouraging approach.
- Willingness to work collaboratively with Mencap staff and adapt to different workplace settings.
As a Mentor, you will work alongside Mencap staff across various teams to support participants and volunteers in developing their workplace skills and confidence. Your role will be key in helping individuals understand and navigate workplace expectations, culture, and behaviours, while encouraging them to grow and take on new tasks.
