River Health and Enhancement Programme Lead

At Severn Trent, we’re more than a water and waste company — we’re driving bold transformation through high-impact programmes that tackle complex challenges, from upgrading strategic systems to achieving our net zero carbon goals.

To support this ambition, our River Enhancement team are looking for a River Health and Enhancement Programme Lead to ensure successful delivery of the our spills programme.

It’s our people who truly set us apart. We’re proud to be an inclusive workplace where you can be yourself, grow your skills, and make a real impact. Join our expanding team to help shape the future of Severn Trent.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

This is a pivotal role within the River Health & Enhancement team, responsible for driving the successful end‑to‑end delivery of the Spills Programme. You’ll play a key part in achieving our spills performance targets and managing compliance risks, ensuring our approach protects both the environment and our regulatory commitments.

As our River Health & Enhancement Lead, you’ll hold a holistic view of targeted storm overflows and ensure that each has a defined solution. You’ll also make sure these solutions are correctly prioritised within the relevant delivery work streams. Central to your success will be your ability to coordinate and support a team of Project Managers and Project Coordinators, working collaboratively across the business to manage information flow, track progress, and maintain strong communication between teams.

You’ll work closely with the Performance & Reporting team to identify new and evolving priority sites, transforming these into actions. You’ll have accountability for SOAF compliance and other regulatory drivers, and ensure right actions are in place to maintain compliance, reduce spills, and minimise environmental impact. With a hands‑on approach, you’ll embed yourself and the wider team within the operational rhythm of Wastewater Recycling, Waste Networks, and other essential delivery teams such as Capital and Commercial services.

Finally, you’ll take ownership of designing and embedding new processes that support the delivery of spills‑related activity. This includes ensuring stakeholders follow established processes and utilise tools effectively.

Key accountabilities are:
  • Lead and develop the team to deliver wastewater and network solutions safely, efficiently and to the required quality, while driving continuous improvement.
  • Oversee end‑to‑end programme management, ensuring strong governance, accurate reporting, compliance, risk control and effective delivery across all targeted sites.
  • Act as the central point of contact for the Spills Programme, managing communications, prioritisation of new requirements, and stakeholder engagement across internal teams and third‑party partners.
  • Ensure robust financial and compliance management, including budget ownership, cost control, quality assurance and accurate maintenance of tools
  • Build strong relationships and resolve delivery challenges, supporting work streams, managing blockers, and contributing subject‑matter expertise to the wider Spills Operating Model strategy.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO

THE ROLE

You’ll bring a strong track record of delivering large, complex, multi‑disciplinary programmes, supported by extensive experience across wastewater recycling and waste network systems. Your background will demonstrate successful collaboration with supply chain partners, effective stakeholder influence, and the ability to build and develop high‑performing teams. You will also have a history of achieving strong financial and operational outcomes, with a deep understanding of how assets interact with the environment.

Alongside your experience, you will have a dynamic and collaborative leadership style, with the ability to balance strategic thinking and operational delivery. You will be confident making sound decisions in ambiguous situations, driving innovation, improving processes, and strengthening relationships across Severn Trent and external partners. With a natural alignment to our values, you will show courage, curiosity, pride and care, consistently…
