Severn Trent is a leading utility company dedicated to delivering innovative digital solutions. The Summer Placement Technology programme offers students a unique opportunity to gain insight into how technology supports and transforms a regulated FTSE 100 business.
What You'll Do- Support the development and delivery of technology standards and solutions across finance, data, and risk management.
- Understand the cyber security landscape and how it influences system design and architecture.
- Use service management tools to resolve incidents and requests and apply techniques to manage change.
- Triage and problem‑solve technology challenges, incidents, and service issues.
- Identify risks and opportunities for process improvements across digital platforms.
- Collaborate with business units to develop IT strategies and improve current implementations.
- Engage in agile project work, including software development, stakeholder communication, and data analysis.
- Gain exposure to how technology supports customer outcomes and community engagement.
During the 8‑ or 12‑week placement you will be based at Severn Trent Centre, Coventry. You will work day‑to‑day with industry professionals, taking lead on projects and real‑life work.

Programme Duration: 8 or 12 weeks
Start Dates: 29th June (8‑week) or 1st June (12‑week)
Salary£23,492
Entry Criteria- Studying Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Systems Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Cybersecurity or other relevant degrees.
- Analytical mindset and passion for technology (Digital Innovation, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Software Development, Emerging Technologies).
- Currently studying at a UK university and eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship.
- ‘Can do’ attitude and ownership of work.
- Adaptability, resilience, and ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong prioritisation and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration, able to build relationships across teams.
