An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic registered nurse to work within the Bowel Cancer Screening Department. There are 2 × substantive 37.5‑hour and 1 × 30‑hour Band 6 roles and an ideal opportunity for those who would like to develop a career as a Specialist Screening Practitioner (SSP).
About The DepartmentThe Bowel Cancer Screening Department covers both Trust sites – University Hospital Coventry and the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby – along with satellite centres within North Warwickshire and South Warwickshire Foundation Trust. This role will require independent travel between these regional centres.
Key Responsibilities- Facilitate the patient journey for those referred to the centre with a positive FIT test, providing required information to enable appropriate choices for investigation.
- Carry out health assessments in a clinical setting.
- Prepare and attend Bowel Cancer Screening endoscopy lists.
- Follow‑up of the patient episode post procedure.
- Run nurse‑led clinics and assess patients.
- Schedule procedures, collect data, discuss findings and arrange follow‑up and referral to other specialties.
- Support the Patient throughout the screening journey.
- Manage a caseload of FIT‑test positive patients within BCSP and Trust guidelines and policies (Core Dimension HWB2 Level 3).
- Support the BCSP Lead Nurse in improving service performance and developing new models of working that may influence participation in the BCSP (Core Dimension 4 Level 3 and G2 Level 2).
- Deputise for the BCSP Lead Nurse when appropriate.
- Attend the Bowel Cancer Screening Specialist Practitioner course and undertake further training to fulfil all SSP requirements.
- Registered nurse with experience in screening or similar clinical environment.
- Up‑to‑date practice and willingness to develop skills.
- Good IT and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication skills with patients and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to travel independently across the Trust sites.
