Job Summary
University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust (UHCW) is seeking a Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO) to support the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) within its extensive executive portfolio. The DCMO will focus on patient safety and clinical governance, deputise for the CMO as required, and provide strategic leadership across the Trust.
Key Responsibilities- Work closely with the CMO and Executive Team to ensure the delivery of safe, clinically effective, and high‑quality clinical services.
- Support the CMO in quality and safety, clinical governance, and professional standards.
- Manage staff relevant to the DCMO function and provide leadership to Clinical Groups.
- Advises the Executive Team and Trust Board on clinical, patient safety, and governance matters.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with external partners such as general practitioners, commissioners, and academic institutions.
- Advance clinical leadership roles within the Trust.
- Essential: Meets essential criteria (consultant grade, relevant clinical experience, current UK registration).
- Desirable: Meets desirable criteria (additional leadership credentials, experience in crisis management or patient safety initiatives).
- Essential: Knowledge of NHS clinical governance, quality improvement, and patient safety frameworks.
- Desirable: Advanced skills in strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and change management.
