Location: UK Wide - Will require ad hoc travel to Coventry / Manchester
Duration: 3-6 Months (Inside IR35)
About the OpportunityAs global sanctions regimes become increasingly complex, our banking client is strengthening their financial crime capability and are looking for an experienced Sanctions Compliance Lead to shape and drive our sanctions control framework.
In this pivotal role, you will oversee the design, implementation and continued enhancement of the sanctions compliance programme—ensuring the organisation maintains robust controls and remains compliant with UK, EU, UN and US regulatory requirements.
You will act as a subject matter expert, providing high‑quality guidance to senior stakeholders, supporting day‑to‑day advisory requests, and partnering closely with first‑line teams to embed effective sanctions risk management.
What You’ll Be Doing- Leading the design and ongoing development of the Group’s sanctions control framework.
- Developing, maintaining and enhancing sanctions policies, procedures and screening standards.
- Overseeing sanctions‑related investigations, alerts and reporting requirements.
- Monitoring regulatory changes and ensuring timely implementation of new sanctions rules.
- Supporting customer and enterprise‑wide risk assessments relating to sanctions exposure.
- Providing expert second‑line oversight, challenge and guidance to first‑line teams.
- Acting as a key point of contact for senior leaders, representing second‑line positions with clarity and impact.
- Working closely with the Sanctions Advisor to ensure consistent, high‑quality advice and guidance across the business.
- You are an experienced Manager or Senior Manager within a financial institution, specialising in sanctions compliance.
- Deep knowledge of UK, EU, UN and US sanctions regulations.
- Proven track record designing and overseeing sanctions control frameworks in a second‑line capacity.
- Experience drafting sanctions policies, standards and guidance.
- Strong understanding of sanctions risk management tools and technology.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to influence at senior levels.
- The ability to interpret regulatory requirements and translate them into practical, proportionate controls.
