About YouThe Department of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Warwick is seeking to appoint an individual to a permanent post (subject to satisfactory completion of probation) in the History of the Ancient Mediterranean, specialism in numismatics.
In research, you will be a specialist in ancient numismatics, within the broader discipline of the history of the ancient Mediterranean. The successful candidate will be an active researcher with a proven track record in publishing in their field, have clear plans for significant future research, and the potential and ambition to secure substantial research‑grant funding, including for projects involving students.
You will also be committed to maximizing the impact of your research on wider audiences outside academia. Your research interests may cover any period of the classical era and should complement the department’s existing strengths in numismatics.
In teaching, you will be expected to teach modules on ancient history and ancient visual and material culture, and to deliver existing modules covering the ancient histories of Greece, Rome and the Hellenistic world. You will also have the opportunity to design and teach your own undergraduate modules on the history of the ancient Mediterranean and to deliver numismatics at MA level.
You will be expected to supervise dissertations at undergraduate, master’s and doctoral level. We welcome applications from candidates who can diversify our syllabus and cover areas of the ancient Mediterranean we do not currently offer.
The department has a dedicated Antiquities room in the new Faculty of Arts building housing our collection of ancient artefacts and coins; the successful candidate will further develop this resource for research, teaching, impact and engagement.
You will undertake administrative roles within the department as required, as well as pastoral duties.
