Teaching Assistant (Primary KS1/KS2) – Temp to Perm

Location: Coventry

Salary: Competitive, based on experience

Contract Type: Full Time

Start Date: ASAP

Monarch Education is excited to be recruiting a dedicated and passionate Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and thriving Primary School to support children with Autism, ADHD and other additional needs. This role is a temp to perm opportunity, offering the chance to make a real difference in the lives of young learners. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated individual, with a strong commitment to creating engaging, inclusive, and supportive learning environments.

Previous experience working in a school is not essential, but experience and a passion for working with children and a willingness to adapt and learn are key.

Key Responsibilities of a Teaching Assistant
  • Classroom Support
    • Implement effective behaviour management strategies to maintain a productive, respectful, and safe classroom atmosphere.
    • Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging their social and emotional development alongside their academic progress.
    • Supporting teachers in planning and delivering activities.
    • Providing constructive feedback and assistance to teachers.
  • Supporting Pupils with SEND
    • Assisting pupils with diverse learning needs (such as autism) through 1:1 and small group interventions.
    • Addressing physical, social, and emotional needs of children, which may include personal care – assisting with dressing, support with medication etc.
    • Implement Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) or other support plans catering to individual needs.
    • Use a range of teaching strategies, including practical activities, to promote engagement and active learning

    • Foster confidence, independence, and social skills in pupils.
  • Assessment and Progress
    • Monitor and support children’s emotional and social development
  • Collaboration and Teamwork
    • Participate in school meetings, training, and collaborative planning sessions.
    • Maintain open lines of communication with parents and carers to keep them informed about student progress and school events with the support of the class teacher or SENDCo.
  • Personal Development
    • Continue to develop professionally by attending training sessions and workshops relevant to your practice.
    • Stay up to date with the latest educational trends, strategies, and practices to ensure that teaching methods remain innovative and effective.
Personal Specification
  • Qualifications
    • A recognised Teaching Assistant Qualification or relevant experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience
    • Experience working as a teaching assistant in a school or working with children with a range of learning needs, including SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities).
    • Experience supporting children or adults with additional needs such as Autism and ADHD or similar conditions.
  • Skills and Attributes
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
    • Creativity and resourcefulness in assisting with learning activities and supporting children development
    • Flexibility and organisation skills to adapt to the variety of needs of the children we work with.

    • A patient and nurturing attitude to support and show empathy towards children’s emotional and social growth with sensitivity and understanding.
