NIHR clinical lecturer in General Practice

About The Role

Warwick Medical School seeks to appoint an NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in General Practice based at the University of Warwick. We are seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual wishing to excel in both their clinical and academic training, with the ambition to join the next generation of leading clinical academics. You will spend 50% of your time in clinical practice and 50% undertaking research or education/training. Alongside clinical practice you will develop a post-doctoral research programme which integrates into the interests of Primary Care research within Warwick Medical School, and you will be encouraged to develop an application for a postdoctoral fellowship and project grants. Successful exit from the programme will leave you well-placed to apply for competitive research fellowships, academic senior lectureships and to continue to work in the global health research community.

The successful applicant must be in post by 1 September 2026.

Contract

• Contract duration: 4 years (to a maximum of 4 years total funding). Funding is available for 1 post.
• The salary will be at the clinical scale, depending on qualifications and experience. Note that NIHR funds GP CL posts at a maximum equivalent to the top of the pre-2003 consultant contract pay scale.

Flexible Working

• We will consider applications for employment on a part-time basis, despite the position being advertised as full-time. Part-time salaries are pro rata.

Applicants should be medically qualified, and have obtained CCT, have full GMC registration and already hold, or have submitted for Higher Degree (PhD/DPhil/MD). You will have evidence of academic achievement, with publications in your field. The post is ideally suited to individuals wishing to build an academic career, and in particular those who have already undertaken research and who now wish to continue undertaking research whilst pursuing further training.

Primary Care

Primary care research spans across Warwick Medical School (WMS) and the university, accelerating progress by encouraging disciplines to work together effectively, embedding primary care into broader human health research. This cross-disciplinary approach has and continues to build a strong pipeline of ideas and collaborative projects that are competitive for external funding. There is a strong focus on Team Science approach to address national and global challenges.

Our vibrant research programmes are supported by strong networks across the University of Warwick and the wider NHS and social care ecosystem.
