Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Optometrist to join our Hospital Optometry team on a 12‑month fixed‑term basis to cover maternity leave. This post will provide valuable experience within hospital optometry across both University Hospital Coventry and Hospital of St Cross, Rugby, working closely with our multidisciplinary team of Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, Orthoptists, and Nursing staff. You will collaborate closely with the Principal Optometrist to deliver a comprehensive range of Optometric services, ensuring the highest standards of quality and care across our two hospital sites: UHCW and Rugby St Cross.

Responsibilities
  • Provide core optometric services, including refraction (routine, diagnostic and paediatric), theatre refractions, specialist medical contact lens management, visual impairment rehabilitation, in‑house spectacle dispensing and eye casualty triage service.
  • Attend Saturday morning Eye Casualty Triage service on a rotational basis.
  • Support the educational programme for pre‑registration optometrists and actively train ophthalmologists, nurses and other professionals within the organisation.
  • Contribute to the Cataract service where experience and qualifications allow.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams at UHCW and Rugby St Cross to maintain high standards of patient care.
Qualifications
  • Qualified Optometrist with the ability to cover maternity leave on a 12‑month fixed‑term basis.
  • Full‑time availability Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm with additional Saturday morning working on a rotational basis.
  • Experience in core optometric services and eye casualty triage service.
  • Experience in specialist medical contact lens management and visual impairment rehabilitation preferred.
  • Experience in cataract service is desirable but not essential.
  • Capability to work at both the University Hospital Coventry and the Hospital of St Cross.
