American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift travel contract at a Level 3 Trauma acute care hospital in Council Bluffs, IA, requiring ICU experience with drips and ventilator management.
Details- Level 3 Trauma acute care hospital ICU setting with 16 beds
- Medical ICU patient population including sepsis, respiratory failure, stroke, MI, DKA, STEMI, A-fib with RVR, PE, and COPD exacerbations
- Nurse-to-patient ratio of 2:1
- Nurses are required to titrate drips including vasopressors (levophed, neosynephrine, cardene) and sedation (precedex, propofol)
- Ventilator, BiPAP, and CPAP patients are present; RT manages all adjustments while RNs troubleshoot
- Draeger telemetry monitors used; centralized monitor techs read strips, but RNs must be able to read and verify independently
- Charting via Epic; experience preferred
- 12-hour night shifts, 6:30 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every third weekend required
- July 4th holiday coverage required
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Floating to the PCU (Progressive Care Unit) required when ICU census is low
- 1 orientation shift for ICU and 1 orientation shift for PCU
- Charge nurse present on every shift and takes a patient assignment
- No nurse aides or patient care techs on the unit
- Hospitalist in-house 24/7; intensivist in-house during day hours and available via telemedicine at night
- RT is shared with the ER and not exclusively in the ICU 24/7
- Active IA RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license, active at time of consideration — pending licenses not accepted
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required; PALS and TNCC preferred — pending certifications not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience preferred
- Hands-on experience with drips, mechanical ventilators, and BiPAP required
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred
- Driver's license required for consideration (used to verify residence is at least 50 miles from the facility)
- 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; permanent address as shown on driver's license is used to verify eligibility
- Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
- A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered on Friday during orientation; a score of 90% or higher is required to pass — failure results in contract termination
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Artificial nails are strictly prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove artificial nails will result to contract termination
- No self-scheduling; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed — shifts are assigned based on unit need
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
