Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery & Postpartum) position at an acute care hospital in Council Bluffs, IA, requiring night shift availability and proficiency in labor, delivery, and postpartum care.
Responsibilities- Acute care hospital LDRP unit serving a Level 1 maternal care population
- Common patient cases include low-risk births, as well as patients requiring magnesium sulfate and gestational diabetes management (GDM)
- Common drips include insulin, magnesium sulfate, and Pitocin
- Alaris IV pumps are used on the unit
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3 for mom-baby couplets and 1:1 for laboring patients, depending on acuity
- EMR system is Epic
- 12-hour night shifts
- Every 3rd weekend is required
- This is a closed unit — floating to other units is not required
- Charge nurses are present on each shift and carry their own patient assignment
- A pass/fail open-book skills exam is administered during orientation — a minimum score of 90% is required to pass; failure to pass may result in termination
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas — refusal to remove them will result in contract termination
- Candidates who were previously employed directly (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates who worked PRN through an outside staffing firm will be considered
- Flexible scheduling is preferred
- Active IA RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license, currently in hand — pending licenses are not accepted
- Current BLS certification (AHA) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required — pending certifications are not accepted
- Experience performing labors, deliveries, and postpartum care is required
- NICU experience is a plus
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by a valid driver's license
- Candidates may not currently be employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any facility associated with Common Spirit, including CHI and/or Dignity
- A valid driver's license is required for consideration
- 2 professional references are required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
