Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Orthopedics night shift position in an acute care setting, requiring at least 1 year of recent RN experience and IA or compact licensure.
Responsibilities- Position is based in an acute care Med Surg/Ortho unit with trauma level 3 designation
- Unit features 28 beds plus 22 overflow beds with a typical RN-to-patient ratio of 1:5
- Common patient population includes total joints, ortho surgeries, COPD, diabetes, wounds, IV infusions, oncology, fractures, sepsis, pneumonia, CHF, and mental health/addiction cases
- Uses Epic EMR
- Shift is 12-hour nights with self-scheduling
- Weekend rotation required every third weekend, with Friday and Saturday counted as weekend for night shifts
- RNs may float to PCU and behavioral health units as needed
- Charge nurse on each shift; patient care techs available at a ratio of 1:10
- One 12-hour unit orientation shift follows initial classroom orientation
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Must not have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by any Common Spirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past year
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- All RTO (Requested Time Off) must be declared up front; additional RTO will not be approved
- Artificial fingernails are prohibited in patient care areas
- Unit practices hourly rounding and bedside shift reports
- Travelers should be flexible, self-directed, and comfortable caring for a diverse patient population, including those with homelessness and mental health or addiction issues
- Orientation consists of classroom education and one unit-based shift
- No titration of drips required; common IV medications include heparin, antibiotics, antithrombotics, and narcotics
- Active IA or compact RN license required and must be in hand at the time of consideration
- Current BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year recent RN experience in a Med/Surg or Ortho setting
- Must pass an open book skills exam with a score of 90% or higher during orientation
- Experience with Epic preferred
- Required to provide driver's license for address verification
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from the last 12 months and another peer or supervisor from the past 3 years
