Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance
Mechanic at OC Fair & Event Center
Wage Range: $24.50-$32.00 per hour (wage based on experience and qualifications)
Position PurposeUnder general direction, performs miscellaneous skilled work in the maintenance, alteration, and repair of buildings and mechanical systems; may instruct, lead workers, and independently perform a wide variety of skilled maintenance tasks. This is a temporary seasonal position not to exceed 122 days scheduled full-time hours.
ScheduleMonday-Thursday 7 am to 3:30 pm;
Friday 6:00 am to 2:30 pm.
- Inspects, maintains, and repairs plumbing, heating, water, and sewer systems.
- Does electrical maintenance and repair work; and repairs equipment.
- Does miscellaneous minor building construction and repair work.
- Does miscellaneous interior and exterior painting; and refinishes furniture.
- Keeps tools and equipment in good condition; keeps records and prepares reports.
- Repairs and maintains small and heavy equipment (forklifts, electric carts, bobcat, skip loaders, water truck, dump truck, lawnmowers, blowers, hedgers, pressure washers, whackers, concrete saws, chain saws and light duty trucks).
- Troubleshoots engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems and electrical systems in the automotive and in the maintenance equipment.
- Maintains mechanic shop, inventory, and tools.
- Consults with staff when equipment is down, to utilize tag out lock out system.
- Organizes and directs the work of unskilled assistants.
- Makes rough sketches and estimates the cost of minor mechanical repairs.
- Estimates and requisitions materials and supplies.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a mechanical trade.
- Four years of varied experience in the Mechanical Trades which must have included experience working with at least 3 of the following areas: electrical, plumbing, heating, water and sewer systems, repairing various mechanical and automotive equipment, and performing minor building construction.
- Possess a valid California driver’s license.
- Must be familiar with automotive safety rules and practices.
- Must be available to work all 23 days of the annual OC Fair.
- Superior mechanical ability.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the operation and repair of plumbing, heating, electrical, water, and sewer systems; materials, methods, and tools used in the repair of mechanical equipment and in miscellaneous building maintenance and repair work and skill in the performance of such work.
- Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety dealing with heating, electrical, plumbing, and other mechanical systems.
- Ability to read, interpret, and work from specifications; estimate materials needed; follow oral and written directions.
- Gets along well with others; reads and writes at a level appropriate to the classification.
- Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a mechanical trade or three years of varied experience as a Building Maintenance Worker (including experience working in electrical, plumbing, heating, water and power systems; and repairing various mechanical and automotive equipment.
- Possess a valid California driver’s license.
