PositionWe are looking to add new talent to our growing team. We are currently seeking a Project Geologist to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing group and company and get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients.
This is a full-time position located in our Costa Mesa, CA office.
- In this role, you will execute soil and groundwater sampling and provide hands-on support for large site investigation programs, primarily at oil refineries and complex petroleum facilities.
- Focus on independent implementation of field work and data collection, ensuring accurate documentation, adherence to safety practices (including OSHA HAZWOPER), and effective collaboration with project managers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Conduct soil, soil vapor, and groundwater sample collection and drilling activities including direct push, hollow stem auger, sonic, and mud-rotary methods.
- Data evaluation, summarizing findings for project reports, and actively participating in health and safety meetings.
- Routine communications regarding progress, field conditions, and compliance with client requirements.
- Oversee geologic site characterization including subsurface explorations, monitoring well siting and construction, soil vapor probe installation, field sampling and waste management.
- Execute soil and groundwater sampling and support and lead project teams with interpretation, evaluation, and summarization of geologic data to make project decisions.
- Independently complete basic geologic data reduction, summarization and synthesis and provide concise summaries with evaluation and proposed next steps.
- Perform all work in accordance with company and client Health & Safety protocols and demonstrate the company’s foundational safety behaviors.
Minimum Skills and Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related field.
- 4+ years of related experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in writing technical reports to meet project requirements.
- Ability to work independently on individual tasks and manage tasks across multiple projects.
- Desire to learn and grow, with a positive attitude, strong work ethic, resourcefulness, flexibility, and ownership.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position: lift 50 lbs., traverse uneven sites, work outside in various weather conditions, and sustain moderate physical activity during field hours.
- Willingness to travel to work locations that may require overnight stays.
- Master’s degree in Geology or related field.
- Professional certification or plan to obtain professional certification, as applicable to the discipline.
- Experience with developing conceptual site models.
- OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training and refresher updates.
The salary range for this position in Costa Mesa, CA is $89,000 – $99,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions. Haley & Aldrich reviews salary ranges each quarter to assess competitiveness with the market.
