Position Summary
The Department of Music at Vanguard University of Southern California invites applications for its General Music Private Instructor Adjunct Pool. This pool supports the department's need for qualified instructors to provide private or small‑group instruction in general music skills and applied music areas, as enrollment and program needs arise. Private instructors play a vital role in mentoring students' musical, technical, and artistic development while supporting Vanguard's commitment to excellence, faith integration, and holistic education.
Appointments are made on a student‑need and semester‑by‑semester basis.
- Provide weekly private or small‑group instruction tailored to student skill level and academic goals
- Develop individualized learning plans that support technical growth, musicality, and professional preparation
- Prepare students for juries, performances, recitals, or competency evaluations as required
- Assess student progress and submit evaluations in accordance with departmental policies
- Maintain regular communication with students and applied faculty coordinators
- Support a positive, encouraging, and faith‑informed learning environment
- Participate in faculty meetings or professional development as requested
- Master's degree in Music or a closely related field (Bachelor's degree with significant professional experience may be considered)
- Demonstrated excellence as a performer, educator, or applied instructor
- Experience teaching private lessons at the collegiate or pre‑collegiate level
- Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills
- Ability to support the Christian mission and values of Vanguard University
$60 per hour

- Majors or fields of study, undergrad & graduate majors, minors, and areas of concentration.
- Most recent chronological listing of teaching experience—name and location of institutions, title/academic rank, full/part‑time, dates of employment.
- A specific listing of courses previously taught.
- Publications, presentations, honors, awards, and memberships in professional organizations.
- With the most recent employment—position/title, full/part‑time, dates of employment.
- Any other qualifying experience, paid or voluntary, other.
