Reporting to the Principal Institutional Research Analyst, the Institutional Research Analyst provides statistical, qualitative, and analytical expertise to inform Oregon State University’s strategic planning, accreditation, and decision-making. The analyst supports projects that require collaboration with colleagues across the Data and Information Architecture (DIA) unit in University Information and Technology.
Surveys and Other External Reporting Timely and accurate response to external publications, including ranking and other surveys (e.g., U.S. News & World Report, Times Higher Ed, Common Data Set). Assist in completing and validating data for state and federal entities, including the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC), IPEDS, and other agencies. Establishes calendars, definitions, and data selection techniques to ensure accuracy, consistency, and comparability across all reporting.
Internal and ad hoc Reporting Extract and prepare datasets; confer with appropriate administrators and department personnel to determine their specific needs; design data collection techniques and apply statistical methods; prepare tables, dashboards and reports meeting the requirements of specific units, including but not limited to strategic planning, accreditation, enrollment management, and Institutional Research website reports.
Institutional Data Management Partners with Decision Support to design, develop, and validate standardized data definitions and models that support institutional reporting and business analysis needs. Assist in the shift from historical data cleaning and reporting practices toward modern approaches that leverage OSU’s enterprise data ecosystem and align with institutional data strategy.
Professional Development Maintains expertise in institutional research and higher education trends by engaging in ongoing professional development. Attends relevant conferences, contributes to scholarly and professional publications, and pursues training in emerging tools, technologies, and methodologies related to data management, statistical analysis, and data visualization.
Other Duties and Special Projects As assigned by the Principal Institutional Research Analyst, works on projects that enhance the quality and reach of institutional research services and publications. This includes initiating studies that anticipate institutional needs and strengthen OSU’s ability to achieve its strategic goals.
