Instructor/Sr. Instructor I & Educational Program Coordinator

Job Summary:

The Department of Horticulture seeks a candidate who will hold two appointments— a 0.50 FTE Instructor/Sr. Instructor I position and a 0.50 FTE Educational Program Coordinator—combining teaching, curriculum development, and outreach at the Oak Creek Center for Urban Horticulture (OCCUH).

Key Responsibilities

50% Program Coordinator & Recruiter

  • Work with department faculty to align curriculum and develop new or revised experiential learning courses.
  • Coordinate internship opportunities, oversee internship reports, and provide student visits during internships.
  • Schedule course laboratories and lead adult education events (field days, workshops, site visits, tours) at OCCUH.
  • Advise and mentor students in the Turfgrass, Landscape & Urban Horticulture option and the Undergraduate Club.
  • Support student participation in NALP National Collegiate Landscape Competition and NALP ELEVATE meetings.
  • Establish collaborations with community colleges and high schools, creating flow‑through programs from high school to B.S. degree options.
  • Develop and execute a recruitment plan to increase undergraduate and graduate enrollment.
  • Promote diversity and inclusion, ensuring equitable outcomes for all learners.

45% Instruction

  • Deliver 3–4 urban horticulture and landscaping courses, including PACE (continuing education) courses.
  • Support Inclusive Excellence initiatives by mentoring and providing opportunities for underrepresented students.
  • Contribute to social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts within the college.

5% Service

  • Participate in departmental and college governance, and serve on university committees as time and aptitude permit.
Minimum Qualifications
  • MS in horticulture, agronomy, or a closely related field focusing on urban horticulture or landscape management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of urban horticulture and landscape management practices.
  • Excellent teaching, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proof of experience in independent and team‐based work.
  • Proficiency with electronic information delivery.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.
Additional Qualifications for Senior Instructor I
  • Four years of professional teaching at the college or university level.
  • Sustained record of exceptional teaching.
Qualifications for Educational Program Coordinator & Recruiter
  • MS in horticulture or related field with an emphasis on urban horticulture and landscape management.
  • Minimum 2 years in outreach, client engagement, or promotion in horticulture or landscape management.
  • Strong event planning skills and knowledge of heavy landscape construction equipment.
  • Proficiency with landscape design/Build/Manage software and technology platforms.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusive learning environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in urban horticulture or landscape management.
  • Past participation in national competitions (e.g., NALP).
  • Experience in student activities programming, mentoring, or advising.
  • Ability to build and leverage professional networks for internships and employment.
  • Proficiency with social media and managing student clubs.
Background Check & Security

Salary
  • Instructor/Sr. Instructor I: $56,244 – $85,000
  • Program Coordinator: $50,002 – $64,884
