Overview
Center Director (ina haws; Diversity & Cultural Engagement) for the kaku-ixt mana ina haws center at Oregon State University. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position located in Corvallis.
Responsibilities- Center Leadership: provide leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the kaku-ixt mana ina haws center, fostering an Indigenous-centered environment that supports belonging, cultural connections, student development, community care, and visibility for Indigenous students and communities at OSU.
- Staff Supervision: mentor and supervise student staff (approx. 10), including hiring, training, evaluation, professional development, and ensuring adherence to employment policies.
- Administrative & Financial Operations: oversee budget management, purchasing, reconciliations, facilities, space reservations, risk assessment, emergency preparedness, and compliance with institutional policies and applicable laws including NAGPRA.
- Programming & Partnerships: advance Indigenous programming that affirms identities, histories, and sovereignty; build partnerships with OSU departments, Tribal nations, and external communities to support Indigenous students and increase institutional awareness.
- Student Support & Crisis Management: navigate crises, resolve conflicts, address conduct issues, provide referrals, and uphold university standards.
- Strategic Alignment: align ina haws initiatives with DCE and OSU strategic priorities and the Diversity Action Plan to improve access, retention, and graduation outcomes for Indigenous and other minoritized students.
- Local Protocols: support inclusion of local Tribal protocols and practices in center use and stewardship of cultural items.
- Student Engagement: facilitate connections to academic, personal, and cultural resources to strengthen student experience, retention, and well-being.
- Contribute to DCE strategic goals through continuous learning, improvement, and culturally responsive practices.
- Lead departmental subcommittees in areas such as Outreach & Engagement, Staff Development, Recruitment & Hiring, and Assessment.
- Participate in weekly DCE staff meetings to strengthen relationships, strategize on student needs, and advance departmental projects.
- Represent DCE on institutional committees and at events; provide educational and cultural resources through presentations, workshops, trainings, and collaborations.
- Coordinate special projects, pursue ongoing professional development, and serve as a visible campus and community representative of the kimih, demonstrating leadership and care.
- Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the position (e.g., Ethnic Studies, Cultural Studies, Education, Social Sciences).
- Four or more years of higher education experience in academic support, leadership development, community engagement, programming, or related fields; or equivalent experience working with Indigenous communities.
- Mentoring, advising, and/or supervision experience.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
- Knowledge of Indigenous identities, histories, and sovereignty; ability to work with diverse Indigenous communities across intersecting identities.
- Experience managing multiple complex projects and strong written/oral communication skills; crisis management and bias-related incident handling.
- Budget management experience.

- Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Ethnic Studies, Cultural Studies, Indigenous Studies, Counseling, or related field.
- 2+ years of direct experience with cultural resource centers, multicultural programming, or identity-focused student services in higher education.
- Experience working with student organizations and designing trainings/workshops on social justice, identity development, or community building.
- Knowledge of assessment and program evaluation strategies; ability to collaborate with a broad range of campus and community stakeholders.
- Campus-based, generally Monday–Friday; occasional evenings and weekends.
- Work in a cultural resource center setting with frequent interaction with faculty, staff, and students.
- Confidential information handling; occasional out-of-state travel; ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
