Job Summary

Academics for Student Athletes is seeking a Learning Specialist. This is a full‑time (1.00 FTE), 12‑month, professional faculty position. ASA is committed to providing holistic and inclusive academic support for student‑athletes, empowering them through graduation and beyond. The Learning Specialist works collaboratively with ASA colleagues from a variety of sport programs, and with Academic Counselors to oversee and implement individualized education plans for student‑athletes presenting academic risk factors and/or learning disabilities.

The role involves time‑management strategies, study‑skills building, tutoring assistance, and the active utilization of cognitive strengths to improve academic performance. Responsibilities also include assisting with course‑specific content, reading comprehension, writing development, and monitoring and reporting student academic progress. The Learning Specialist leads the implementation of the new student assessment process and supports peer‑educator learning and development. The position reports to the Head Learning Specialist.

Key Responsibilities

85% – Serve as Learning Specialist

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive academic support services, including individualized academic plans to a caseload of student‑athletes with a variety of academic needs.
  • Meet with assigned cohort of student‑athletes up to five times per week, focusing on academic skill building, time management, organization, reading comprehension, and writing development.
  • Demonstrate understanding of course expectations and general content to help students succeed.
  • Develop and disseminate timely academic performance reports to Academic Counselors; meet as needed to ensure collaboration.
