Pay Rate: $15.05 - $21.50 (standard); $14.05 - $19.50 (non-urban); $16.30 - $22.00 (Portland Metro)

Job Summary

This recruitment will be used to create a pool of multiple positions. Primary duty is the care and maintenance of animals, facilities, and some crop and grazing duties.

  • Stall cleaning
  • Feeding
  • Watering
  • Other operations related to animal husbandry and facility upkeep
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student:
      Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home‑schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post‑baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

* International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full‑time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Required Qualifications
  • This is an off‑campus facility; employees must have a reliable form of transportation
  • Applicants must be available to work early morning shifts: 4:00–8:00 a.m. and 4:00–8:00 p.m. (will work around student schedules and clubs)
  • Applicants must be flexible with availability in order to split shifts between employees fairly, ensuring animals will be cared for during holidays and breaks
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
  • No previous dairy experience is required, but is beneficial
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
  • Employee may be exposed to noxious odors, infectious diseases, chemicals, loud noises, slippery floors and machinery
  • Employee will be exposed to inclement weather conditions
  • Employee may need to maneuver items that weigh up to 50 pounds
  • Employee may be required to stoop, bend and kneel to provide care of the animals
  • Milking shifts begin at 04:00 a.m. and 04:00 p.m. and can last from 3.5–5.5 hours depending on season and number of newborn calves. (If shifts go longer than expected, employees are allowed to leave early to go to class.)
  • Employees are expected to work at least two weekends per month
  • Employee work schedules will be set according to class schedules
