This recruitment will be used to fill 3 part‑time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Academic Coach positions for the Academic Success Center at Oregon State University (OSU).
When it comes to learning and academic success in college, there’s no one‑size‑fits‑all strategy. Everyone has unique strengths, talents, and needs. At the Academic Success Center
, we believe in each student’s ability to set goals and decide their best path towards achieving those goals. The ASC includes a number of services, including Academic Coaching, drop‑in Strategist support, Supplemental Instruction (group study tables), workshops, ALS 116:
Academic Success (2‑credit course), and our online Learning Corner.
Academic coaching offers students space to think out loud with someone about their academic goals and how to reach them.
Coaches do not provide tutoring or offer advice
. Rather, coaches often support students with planning time, studying more effectively, balancing responsibilities, overcoming procrastination, catching up on schoolwork, and more. Coaching happens in scheduled, 45‑minute sessions in‑person in Waldo 125 and over Zoom. In those sessions, Academic Coaches use our coaching model to:
Initial paid training will take place in spring 2026, and regular shifts start fall 2025. After completing initial training, Academic Coaches typically work 6‑10 hours per week and attend weekly professional development meetings 1‑2 hours per week. Successful candidates are expected to work as Academic Coaches throughout the 2026‑2027 academic year.
Support and CompensationAcademic Coaches’ wages start at $15.15 per hour, and they receive annual pay increases. Academic Coaches receive substantial paid training, attend paid weekly staff meetings, and engage in routine reflection and feedback in order to further develop transferrable skills throughout their employment.
