Position Information

Job Title: Our Little Village Early Care & Education Centers Teacher

Appointment Type: Student Employee

Position Appointment Percent: 100%

Appointment Basis: 12

Pay Method: Hourly

Pay Period: 16th - 15th of the following month

Pay Date: Last working day of the month

Minimum Hourly Rate: $15.05 (Standard); $14.05 (Non-Urban); $16.30 (Portland Metro)

Maximum Hourly Rate: $21.50 (Standard); $21.00 (Non-Urban); $22.00 (Portland Metro)

Position Summary

This recruitment will fill 5 part-time (up to 24 hours per week) student employee positions at Our Little Village Early Care & Education Centers (OLV) at Oregon State University for the  school year. Students will work during the year, with opportunities in morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts, caring for children ages 5 months to 10 years. OLV provides a unique service where student parents can drop off children for free while they attend campus activities.

Position Duties

The student employees are the main staff of the centers, working under the guidance of the Site Director and Assistant Director. Primary responsibilities include the welfare of the children and providing a fun, safe, and engaging classroom environment. Key tasks include:

  • Interfacing with parents and building relationships with families
  • Providing care for a range of ages simultaneously
  • Creating a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for all children, parents, and staff
  • Performing opening and closing duties
  • Maintaining scheduled hours
  • Making and/or warming bottles and feeding babies
  • Adhering to sanitation requirements
  • Problem solving, conflict resolution, and decision making with children, parents, and fellow employees
  • Encouraging the growth and development of children by engaging with age-appropriate activities
  • Working with a diverse group of children, families, and employees
Qualifications
  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment.
  • Must meet enrollment standards: 6 credit hours per term for undergraduates; other specific standards as detailed.
  • Prior experience working with children ages 5 months through 10 years old and their families.
  • Preferred experience in a licensed early care and education center, and/or college courses in Early Childhood Education, Human Development and Family Sciences, Special Education, or related fields.
